Many churches in our area are taking part in a unique program called Operation Christmas Child. Operation Christmas Child is a division of Samaritan's Purse, and is probably the simplest, easiest and least expensive program in which you can participate in a Holiday Outreach program.
The program is easy - take an empty shoebox and fill it with toys, hygiene products, school items, etc. for a girl or a boy (for one of three different age groups). You can help bring JOY and HOPE into the lives of children living in poverty and desperate conditions. Your gift-filled shoebox brings JOY into a child's life while Samaritan's Purse provides the HOPE in a booklet in the child's own language called "The Greatest Gift". This could be introducing the Word of God to this child for the very first time.
You can become a missionary through the use of a single shoebox! There is probably no easier way to reach thousands around the world. 2006, the Mid-Atlantic Region of Operation Christmas Child sent over 475,000 shoeboxes, and over 7.4 million shoeboxes were collected internationally.
