A Brief History of Bacton Hill Bible Church

Bacton Hill Bible Church began as a Sunday School in 1876. Members from other congregations volunteered their time to teach Bible classes. Visiting pastors conducted worship services once a month. The Sunday School continued to grow through the mid 1920's and occupied a building at the corner of Conestoga Road and Valley Hill Road. However, they did not own the land under the building. When the depression struck, the community lost interest and the building closed. A small group of trustees continued to pay the insurance on the building and prayed that God might someday start up the work again.

In 1947, the land under the church was sold to a man who talked about turning the church building into a tavern. Under the original deed, the building could not be used for anything but religious services. When the trustees learned of this new plan, they reopened the building and began conducting services. The congregation quickly outgrew the one room building and in 1951 they began praying for a new facility. Shortly thereafter, a local businessman donated almost 3 acres of land on Bacton Hill Road in what is now known as the Frazer Industrial Park. God provided the funds and labor so that a new building was erected a year later.

At the time, the church supported missionaries, held special activities for the family on Wednesday evenings and visited members of the community inviting them to attend services.

On November 7, 1971, God tested the congregation's faith by allowing vandals to set the church on fire. This totally destroyed the inside of the building making it necessary for the congregation to seek temporary facilities in which to worship. Great Valley High School was utilized on Sunday morning and Covenant Presbyterian Church in Frazer was used for evening services. Within two years God once again provided a new piece of ground and a new building - our present facility on Conestoga Road. The church continued to grow in size even during those difficult times.

Today our congregation, sometimes referred to as the "lighthouse on the hill," enjoys the beautiful facilities the Lord provided. Our current ministries include Sunday School classes for all ages, Sunday Morning & Evening Services, and a Sunday evening Youth Program (grades 7-12). Our Wednesday evening program includes Polywogs for 3-5 year olds, Pioneer Boys and Girls for grades 1-6 and an Adult Bible Study and Prayer Time.

As we look forward to the future, we pray that we might "proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, that we may present every man complete in Christ." (Colossians 2:8)
